What is and what should be

The contributions presented in this volume by researchers from Rostock, Greifswald, Berlin, Hamburg, and Osnabrück regarding the life and work of Immanuel Kant reflect a productive, contemporary, and largely innovative critical understanding of Kant. Kant's life and work have been significantly shaped by the Königsberg liaison between rationalism and pietism, more so than is commonly acknowledged. This fact is thoroughly explored. Important aspects of Kant's overall work are addressed. Both the issues of pre-critical Kant and those of his three major critiques are productively reconsidered, with an emphasis on the philosophical significance of pre-critical Kant. However, the main focus of the volume is on practical philosophy, which Kant famously regards as the cornerstone of philosophy. Additionally, there are significant contributions to Kant scholarship.
