Nonparametric statistics is an important subfield of statistical methodology. Characteristic of nonparametric statistical methods are primarily distribution-freeness, robustness, and simplicity, which results in high practical relevance. This textbook provides a clear introduction to nonparametric tests; particular attention is given to permutation and bootstrap tests, which have increasingly gained prominence since the second half of the 1990s and are now implemented in numerous statistical software systems.
