Aby Warburg: Gesammelte Schriften - Studienausgabe / Der Bilderatlas MNEMOSYNE

The Picture Atlas is a compilation of about 2000 images from art and cultural history presented in approximately sixty panels, which Warburg intended to use to summarize and crown his life's work. The development of this project occupied the last years of his life, but it remained a fragment at the time of his death. The edition in the study version does not aim, as has been done, to supplement the work and the image panels with various texts through its own imagination and associations, but instead presents the monumental fragment in the form in which Warburg left it. Although contemporaries had high hopes for this work and although the staff of the Warburg Institute continued to attempt to edit the atlas even after relocating to London, it never resulted in an adequate publication of the material.
