Product details

The internationally renowned British master of contemporary landscape painting presents his 90-meter-long iPad frieze "A Year in Normandy" at the Museum Würth 2 in Künzelsau, marking its debut in a German museum. From individual iPad paintings, David Hockney composes his immediate surroundings throughout the year, drawing inspiration from the format of the famous Bayeux tapestry from 1066, which depicts the Battle of Hastings and inspired the artist to create this continuum. Hockney meticulously studies his environment en plein air, with his constant companion, the iPad, translating what he sees into an impressive, vibrant color band of the seasons. Unique to the presentation of an iPad painting (on 68 accordion-fold pages) of this scale is the dialogue between the frieze from Normandy and Hockney's artworks from the Würth collection. Image motifs predominantly from his time in Yorkshire, Northern England, thus encounter the northern French landscapes.
