Product details

"Worse than the censorship of the press is the censorship by the press." This was written by the insightful Gilbert K. Chesterton, creator of the world-famous character Father Brown, as early as the beginning of the last century. Chesterton, the journalistic star of his time and a Catholic convert, serves as a model for Matussek's report from within the Fourth Estate. For it seems that the media has transformed in recent years into an uncritical chorus of praise for the government, turning the country into a hippie state that acts as crazily as if the Woodstock veterans were setting the rhythm with Jefferson Airplane's psychedelic anthem "White Rabbit." In this work, sparkling with wit and irony, Matussek traces the madness in Germany, highlighting the partly comical, partly absurd self-restraint of the press, and continually returns to his reference saint Chesterton, the "Apostle of Common Sense," as he could, or rather should, still serve as a benchmark for the "writing guild" today—not only in the year of the welcome refugee 2015.
