Das Versprechen

It happened in broad daylight. Commissioner Matthai, who has reached the peak of his career, is supposed to be preparing for a flight to Jordan to take on an honorable position there. Just then, he receives a call from Mägendorf, a small town near Zurich. An unknown peddler informs him that he has found the body of a brutally mutilated girl in the woods. Despite his imminent departure, Matthai drives to Mägendorf and promises the child's parents that he will not rest until he has unmasked the perpetrator.
