Das Phänomen 'Deutschenfeindlichkeit' an deutschen Schulen

Many children and adolescents with a Muslim background attend German schools. Due to objectively noticeable differences in the ethnic and cultural backgrounds of these students, they are often subjected to prejudices, discrimination, and xenophobia. The same apparently applied to the reverse situation. Both teachers and politicians reported, particularly during the periods from 2009 to 2010, about the so-called anti-German sentiment, which was especially observable in schools in Berlin. It seemed a new social problem had emerged. This work reconstructs a section of the social reality found here using the knowledge sociological program developed by Michael Schetsche. By examining the discursive genesis of the problem pattern of anti-German sentiment, the author addresses the research question: Is there anti-German sentiment in German schools? Insights gained from discursive analysis at different levels are then ultimately transformed into the preventive practice of social pedagogical action.
