Das Päckchen

While on a business trip in Bern, Zurich librarian Ernst receives a clearly misdirected call. On the other end of the line is an unknown woman pleading with him to come to her immediately. On a whim, Ernst heads to the nearby address. There, he is met by an elderly woman who hands him a package with the request to keep it safe so it doesn’t fall into the wrong hands. To his own astonishment, Ernst agrees to her request. When he opens the package at home, he discovers an old manuscript that he recognizes as a copy of the "Abrogans," a Latin-Old High German dictionary considered the oldest book in the German language. Could it even be the long-lost original? What, Ernst wonders, is the significance of this find? And what should he do now?.
