Das »normale« Kind

Since the beginnings of childhood education, the focus has been on creating the "normal," the adapted, the beautiful, and the useful child. As an assistant to economics, medicine, and psychology, pedagogy has contributed, at least since the 18th century, to making the child useful for social and economic purposes—through the application of control, regulation, and humiliation, often at the expense of the child's independence and creative, autonomous action. This book offers a new perspective on the history of black pedagogy by illustrating how the child has become a standardized commodity throughout its development. The author sheds light on previously taboo aspects of childhood and demonstrates how black pedagogy has historically and currently spread and solidified in educational institutions such as kindergartens and schools, as well as in cultural practices, with the intent of education.
