The author Friedrich Heinrich Frey (1822-1890) was a Swiss physician, anatomist, and zoologist. He studied medicine in Vienna, Bonn, Berlin, and Göttingen from 1840 to 1845, became an assistant at the physiological institute at the latter university, and in 1848 was appointed professor of histology and comparative anatomy in Zurich, where he also took on the chair of zoology at the Polytechnic School. Frey is considered one of the first microlepidopterists in Germany. In the present volume, he introduces the microscope and microscopic techniques - a handbook for physicians and students from 1863. Illustrated with 228 black and white images. Reprint of the original edition from 1863.
