The author Friedrich Heinrich Frey (1822 -1890) was a Swiss doctor, anatomist and zoologist. He studied medicine in Vienna, Bonn, Berlin and Göttingen from 1840-45, became assistant to the Institute of Physiology at the latter university and professor of histology and comparative anatomy in Zurich in 1848, where he also became professor of zoology at the Polytechnic School. Frey is one of the first microlepidopterologists in Germany. In this volume he introduces the microscope and microscopic technique - a manual for physicians and students from 1863, illustrated with 228 b/w illustrations. Reprint of the original edition from 1863.
