The compact reference work on the Ministry of State Security of the GDR, in which one can find all the important information on the subject in a concise and precise manner based on the current state of research, is now available in an expanded 4th edition. It deals with the structures, working methods and methods of the MfS, decisive key terms as well as the most important actors. At the same time, the political environment is addressed and the influence of the secret service on various areas of life in the GDR is presented. The encyclopedia makes the subject matter accessible in a generally understandable manner and illustrates the practices of the MfS through numerous illustrations, statistics, organizational charts and documents.
