Das Mächtige Häuflein

Kiril Georgiev examines the aesthetics and stylistics of the "Mächtiges Häuflein" circle of composers against the background of the socio-cultural situation in Russia during the "1860s". In doing so, he draws on both German and Russian-language primary and secondary literature in a complementary but also comparative manner. At the centre of his study is the question of the historical and contemporary interpretation of the term "national" or "Russian music" using the example of the circle of composers and its reception in Germany and Russia.
