This book examines our dying process and how today's palliative care can support us during it. It presents medical and practical perspectives, as well as ethical, cultural, and personal viewpoints. The focus is on our fears as patients and as relatives, the preservation of dignity and autonomy, hopes, and, using the Ruhr area as an example, the questions our cultural background raises during this stage of life. The aim is to enable readers to find their own positions on existence and life, to reflect on existing viewpoints, and to discover their own approach to drafting an advance directive, establishing a power of attorney, or generally engaging with palliative care.
