Somewhat involuntarily, Matthias spends his summer vacation on Sylt. He visits his younger brother, who lives in a home there and doesn’t speak to anyone. However, the vacation takes an unexpected turn when Matthias meets his brother's caregiver and falls in love with her. Marta, however, initially does not notice him. It is only years later, when they meet again at a university in Berlin, that Matthias gets close to his first love. She introduces him to student circles that belong to a radical group. Matthias gets involved with Marta and her beliefs, ignoring warning signs and conflicting feelings. He only realizes Marta's true intentions when it is too late.
