Reports about child welfare endangerments are increasingly appearing in the media. In 2006, two-year-old Kevin was found dead at his stepfather's home in Bremen. The boy died as a result of physical violence. Also in 2006, 17-month-old Justin died in Kaiserslautern. In November 2007, the case of five-year-old Lea Sophie made headlines. The girl died from the consequences of months of malnutrition. In light of such cases, the call for better early warning systems and the initiation of early assistance is growing louder. A successful collaboration between youth welfare offices and daycare centers plays a particularly important role in this context. This book deals with child and youth welfare in the context of cooperation between daycare centers and the General Social Service of the youth welfare office. In three main chapters, alongside a general overview of the services offered by the Child and Youth Welfare Act, the possibilities and limitations of cooperation between daycare centers and the youth welfare office are theoretically explored and discussed using a quantitative survey conducted in the city of Kaiserslautern as an example.
