Das Hohelied

The Song of Songs is a poetic and simultaneously erotic dialogue. It's hard to believe that it is found in the Bible. Jewish and Christian theologians have repeatedly sought and found the meaning of such a love song in the Holy Scriptures, either literally or allegorically. This edition introduces these exciting discourses in an accessible manner and provides a brief history of interpretation from both Jewish and Christian perspectives, as well as information on the musical adaptation of the "Song of Songs." Accompanying the text are drawings by the artist Astrid Saalmann, which beautifully correlate with the poetically sensual rendition of the biblical text in German by the Jewish scholar Max A. Klausner (1848-1910). In the second part, the Hebrew original text from the Tanakh is juxtaposed with the revised version of Martin Luther's translation.
