Das Herrenzimmer

The 20th century from a rare internal perspective: In the reflection of the "Gentlemen's Room" by Sibylle Knauss, three generations of a wealthy bourgeois family pass by – three vastly different men as heirs of a dynasty, each grappling with various adversities, yet never realizing what adversity they themselves represent in each other's lives. The descriptions of the furniture, flooring, and hunting weaponry in the gentlemen's room evoke the industrial residences of the region, from Villa Hügel to Schloss Landsberg. Ultimately, however, it is about how the male approach to power is inherited differently from generation to generation, but always with fatal consequences.
