How did contemporary women cope with crises and challenges during the tumultuous period around 1800? Through the examination of the uses of various forms of "wealth" within the families of the writers Anna Louisa Karsch (1722–1791), Caroline Luise von Klencke (circa 1750–1802), and Helmina von Chézy (1783–1856), Charlotte Zweynert develops "wealth" as an analytical concept. This approach opens up economically grounded gender-historical perspectives on the "Sattelzeit" between the 18th and 19th centuries, starting from the household and extending through the writing and life practices of these women.
