Das Haus an der Keizersgracht

The nature philosopher Bram Wenksterman lives in a house on the Keizersgracht in Amsterdam that has been in his family for generations. Everything and everyone around him is in a state of disintegration. The house is literally rotting beneath his feet, his daughter Amber has just dropped out of her studies, and Wenksterman has had to admit his wife to a psychiatric facility. It's a bad time to ask his millionaire father-in-law for money. The fact that he has started an affair with his wife's cousin doesn't make things any easier. But what angers the old man the most is that his granddaughter Amber knows nothing about the family secret – he won't part with a cent until she does. The house on the Keizersgracht is inspired by the true story of two canal houses. In this tightly composed novel, the events unfold over just three days – culminating in a massive pile of rubble.
