The Green House is one of the major Latin American novels that gained attention since the mid-1960s, offering an unexpected response and enrichment to European literature. Its author was just thirty years old in the year of its publication, 1966. "Perhaps the most astonishing and impressive testimony of the young generation of our continent," called the novel the 1967 Nobel Prize winner, Miguel Angel Asturias. It is Vargas Llosa's most complex work, the one in which Latin American life experience has produced the richest forms and stories.
