Product details

Flower power from the 17th century. The Green Florilegium is an outstanding work of flower and plant painting. This delightful treasure of botanical art is presented in a beautifully equipped volume with high-quality reproductions in nearly original format. The Florilegium dates back to the 17th century and includes 178 plates featuring approximately 400 botanical motifs, painted life-size and with extraordinary precision. The artistically top-notch illustrations on parchment depict flowering plants throughout the seasons, including botanically accurate representations of roses, tulips, daffodils, and lilies. Although unsigned and undated, it is attributed to Hans Simon Holtzbecker (1649–1671), one of the most significant flower painters, who also created the famous Gottorf Codex. The Florilegium is housed in the Statens Museum for Kunst in Copenhagen, where it has been meticulously restored over several years and now shines in its full glory once again.
