Product details
Children need fairy tales, and this is nearly undisputed today. How educators can support children in discovering fairy tales, which fairy tale themes are suitable, and how different educational areas can be addressed through the medium of fairy tales is explained by the two experienced social educators Mechthild Wessel and Brigitte vom Wege. This book presents a variety of modern and creative ways to use fairy tale themes in daycare and kindergarten: from a fairy tale action week to a fairy tale festival and a fairy tale hour in everyday daycare life.
For this fairy tale book, 17 stories by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen have been selected, including:
- The Star Money
- The Princess and the Pea
- Puss in Boots
- The Golden Goose
- The Fat, Lazy Pancake
From the fascinating world of African fairy tales, Carl Meinhof has included a story from South Africa: The Elephant and the Tortoise. They are printed with the complete text for reading aloud, along with a variety of play and activity options that can be used in all key areas of early childhood education: language development, creativity, physical education, musical promotion, and even cooking and baking recipes are included. The authors explain which fairy tales are suitable for which age groups and provide a suitable selection for children aged 3-7 years.
In addition to the practical aspects, the authors illustrate how fairy tales can be used within the framework of early childhood educational processes. They explore whether fairy tales are still appropriate and relevant in light of a modern educational concept that assumes children want to explore the world competently and effectively. After all, the sometimes cruel fairy tales seem to have nothing to do with the real world. However, fairy tales do not aim to inform about reality; instead, they symbolically tell of wishes, longings, and fears.
