Narcissistic personality disorder affects between 1% and 4% of the population, depending on statistics. It is important to note that the literature only includes narcissists who are in treatment. However, narcissists typically do not seek treatment. Their firm belief that they are perfect prevents them from consulting a therapist. Narcissism is often defined as self-love. However, narcissists cannot truly love, neither others nor themselves. The narcissistic emotional abuse within families, especially by mothers, often goes misunderstood and unnoticed. This was also the case for Gabriele, who suffered under her mother from early childhood. In 2013, Gabriele founded a group to connect with others. She quickly realized that their own mothers poisoned their daughters' lives in the same way: "The poison that works slowly.".
