The meadows of the Rednitz Valley have been traditionally irrigated for centuries, which is why they are now a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Site. This book tells their story and gives a voice to the farmers who still practise this irrigation today. But it also reports on other activities and relationships with these water meadows. The reader is given an insight into a complex social and ecological structure. It describes why the preservation of this adapted form of land use is so important for people, the city and the environment.
