"The Third Reich of Dreams," first published in Germany in 1962, is more relevant today than ever. Charlotte Beradt recorded dreams that were dreamt between 1933 and 1939, during the time of National Socialism. She noted fifty such "dreams dictated by the dictatorship" in her book. She gives voice to "seamstress, neighbor, aunt, milkman, friend" and illustrates how Nazi propaganda and terror infiltrate the corners of seemingly private everyday life and how the dreamers respond to the enormous external pressure. Apparently upstanding citizens become persecuted individuals in their dream world, suffering under the regime of persecution. A chilling and important book that provides us access to historical contemporary history and prompts reflection in light of the current political situation.
