Product details
The book "The CODIT Principle - Tree Biology and Tree Care" summarizes the current knowledge about the biology of trees, their wound reactions, and professional tree care. The authors provide practical recommendations for the care and maintenance of trees in cities and along roads. At the same time, they aim to educate and motivate people to protect trees in our cities and landscapes. Trees are among the largest and oldest living organisms in the world and must cope with many changes in location throughout their lives. In populated areas, there are various influences on the tree environment, such as soil compaction, sealing, root injuries caused by earthworks, pruning measures in the crown, collision damage, or vandalism, which represent different types of injuries.
This book first describes the structure and function of bark, wood, and cambium, followed by the wound reactions of these tissues. A central part of this work is dedicated to the CODIT principle, which clearly outlines the reactions of trees from injury to the encapsulation of rot in successive phases. This helps explain why some wounds have problematic consequences for the tree while others do not. Additionally, the wound reactions of bamboo and palms are presented in comparison to those of trees.
This reference book bridges the gap from tree biology basics and the CODIT principle to the practical work of tree care, where the most important standards and regulations in the sector are also explained. The ZTV-Baumpflege (2017), which has been the most important set of rules for describing tree care work for over 40 years, is particularly significant in this context.
The target audience for the book includes arborists, tree inspectors and experts, gardeners and landscapers, municipalities and green space offices, dendrologists, forest scientists, and biologists.
