Das Buch der Gipfel

Around 1900, when climbing flourished in the Saxon Switzerland, our ancestors decided to only climb free-standing towers. This tradition continues to this day. The range of climbing peaks is impressive, both in quantity (about 1100) and especially in the diversity of their shapes. Frank Richter tells a climbing story for the first time with this picture book, showcasing the peaks he has examined from all angles and was surprised by the variety of their characteristics. His images are complemented by historical climbing photographs taken by the photographer Walter Hahn and others from the period of around 1910 to 1936. This creates an exciting insight into the diversity and possibilities of climbing in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains.
