Gothenburg in May: The body of a girl is found in shallow waters. It quickly becomes clear that it is 14-year-old Alexandra, whose disappearance has been the focus of local press for days. Strange cut wounds on her body indicate a brutal violent crime: evidently, the murderer had attempted to carve a pattern into her skin. The understaffed homicide department, already occupied with the case of a mysterious body found in a burned-down house, comes under pressure when a passerby soon discovers another dead girl in the woods. She too has suffered similar injuries. Was it the same perpetrator? Did the girls possibly know their murderer? As the police investigate the teenagers' internet activities, Irene Huss's suspicions grow stronger, but soon she finds herself in trouble during the investigation.
