The Educational Book - Documenting in Dialogue

The Educational Book, a method developed by the GEW for observing and documenting educational processes in childcare facilities, primarily achieves one thing: children feel that they have a role in their own development and understand the goals they can reach. The method is so successful because the educational documentation is consistently created together with the children. It embraces the idea that education grows within each child and that they are 'actors of their own selves.' It is not a tool for educators to systematize and record their observations. The essence of the Educational Book lies in its function as a medium for dialogue. The educator acts as a partner in the dialogue and a moderator of the child's educational process. The Educational Book also serves as a means of communication with parents and teachers. It is not a report on performance levels, but rather offers insights into the child's self-organizational abilities and resources on their educational journey.
