Product details
As Black Eve, a dangerous snake, a silent servant, or an influential woman, the African woman appears in literary productions that address the formation of racial identities. Around 1900, colonial literature flourished in Europe, allowing little room for African female figures. Almost half a century later, Francophone literature cast the described African woman in a new light. In addition to comparing the portrayal of the African woman by German, French, and African authors, the novels of African female writers play a special role, as they provide a nuanced perspective on the image of women and the process of identity formation.
