1978. When Rosalba decides to emigrate to Switzerland, she breaks her mother Aurora's heart. However, the nineteen-year-old yearns for freedom and progress, while unemployment reigns in Italy and the family construction business struggles for every contract. She trains to become a bricklayer. Just a few years later, Rosalba takes over her cousin's construction company in the Swiss Alps and meets Remo, an architect who understands her dreams and gives her longing a home. But Rosalba encounters unexpected resistance. A woman at the helm of a construction company is not trusted, and her firm is boycotted. Soon, the family business is on the brink of ruin.
