Das Architekturdetail bei Borromini

Contemporaries already registered it as a striking feature of Borromini's architecture that he invented his own apparatus of individual forms for each building, thereby - supposedly - radically detaching himself from the models of antiquity and the Renaissance. The study looks at exemplary buildings by Borromini, especially from his first creative phase, and provides new insights into the architect's design intentions and methods, his relationship to antiquity, to models such as Michelangelo, and to architectural theory, not least through in-depth analyses of his hand drawings.
