Product details
With the breakthrough of satellite broadcasters in the 1990s, global television made its way into the Arab world. Private satellite channels paved the way for a new media order, thereby transforming the Arab media landscape. After Arab television had long been a state institution, private satellite channels initiated a process of increasing liberalization. Today, viewers in the Middle East have the opportunity to receive over 200 Arab television channels via satellite. As part of globalization, this new Arab media order has also influenced the West. The emergence of Arab news channels has reshaped the global media landscape; these channels present a new facet of international reporting and thus become a new source of information.
