Product details
The Affolter Model®, developed by Félicie Affolter, a student of Jean Piaget, during her years of work with individuals with perceptual disorders, consists of a developmental model and a therapeutic method. The developmental model is based on the premise that all development relies on an interaction between the individual and the environment. When this interaction is hindered due to perceptual disorders, development is also disrupted. The tactile-kinesthetic system, which provides the felt input in all interaction processes, plays a crucial role in this context. The therapeutic method of the Affolter Model® aims to facilitate more appropriate felt information through guided interactions in caregiving or in dealing with everyday problems, thereby initiating developmental progress. The authors provide a comprehensive description of the Affolter Model® in all its applications. This careful representation of perceptual and interaction processes is complemented by numerous case examples. The authors have been working with the Affolter Model® for many years and apply the model in their therapeutic practice, whether in private practice, outpatient services, special schools, or rehabilitation clinics. Most of the authors also have qualifications as educators in the Affolter Model®. The book is aimed not only at physiotherapists and occupational therapists but also at all readers involved in therapeutic and/or (special) educational work.
