Darstellungsformen in der historischen Semantik

The book examines the performance of different forms of representation as tools for knowledge generation, organization, and transfer in the field of historical semantics, and considers possibilities for new forms of representation. Initially, a spectrum of representation forms is discussed, ranging from minimal stories to complex text clusters, such as multimodal representations in digital environments. A central constellation of functional text elements is addressed in the chapter on 'Narrating and Explaining in Historical Semantics', which also tackles some fundamental questions regarding the concept of explanation. Special representation strategies are then explored, including the use of metaphors, such as developmental paths and semantic bridges, as well as the use of visual representations, such as tree graphs and semantic maps. The conclusion features a methodological case study on the history of the complex polysemy of the adjective "hard," in which various representation forms are exemplarily utilized.
