Amit (Lodz, Poland, 1938 - Jerusalem, November 4, 2007) was an Israeli physicist and pacifist. Amit began his scientific career in particle physics and earned a Ph.D. from Brandeis University. In the 1970s, he was active in statistical mechanics. In the 1980s, he turned to more interdisciplinary research, including neuroscience. He was a professor at the Racah Institute of Physics at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and a professor of neural networks in the Department of Physics at Sapienza University of Rome. He was a leading figure and one of the founders of the modern theory of neural networks.
