Product details
Nagasaki, early 1950s: The destruction from the war is still evident in the city, yet new, modern high-rises are already emerging among the ruins. In one of these, Etsuko lives with her husband Jiro. While he bitterly tries to advance his career, Etsuko takes care of the household. She has little entertainment and often stands by the window, observing how the world around her changes. One day, a woman moves into the wooden cabin by the river with her young daughter. Etsuko befriends the two and soon realizes how her neighbor increasingly forgets her child in pursuit of her dream of happiness with an American soldier.
