Product details

A young woman moves into a tiny room in run-down Morningside Heights. The year is 1979, and S.H. comes straight from the American provinces; hence her nickname: "Minnesota". Wild New York beckons, and she, who wants to become a writer, enjoys the dirt as well as the glamour, the turbulent life as well as the loneliness. She eagerly absorbs everything new. So too, through the paper-thin walls to the neighboring apartment, the often bizarre monologues and chanted mantras of her neighbor: Lucy Brite, she reads on the doorbell. But as time goes by, she wishes she hadn't listened so closely. Lucy's chants become more and more urgent, more and more plaintive. There is talk of abuse, of imprisonment, of child death, even of murder. Little by little, the neighbor becomes an increasingly terrible obsession. Until one night, a dramatic event in Minnesota's apartment.
