Koi ponds in Central Europe are rarely older than 10 years, which means that for many pond owners, the time for experimentation is not yet over. Successes and failures alternate; many well-regarded details do not work effectively, and better solutions are sought. For several years, the authors have visited koi and koi ponds both domestically and abroad, interviewing their owners about pond construction, technology, and koi keeping. They present here decorative and representative, as well as many ordinary koi setups, through photos and descriptions of the technical details and the operators' experiences. These experiences are particularly valuable for beginners who want to learn about different methods to decide which path of koi keeping they would like to pursue.
