Cultural Techniques

The aim and purpose of the Topiaria series (from Latin topiarius = the art gardener) by Helvetica is to offer interested gardening enthusiasts articles on various aspects related to gardens. The contributions in this book focus on cultural techniques. Various topics are covered, including gardening as a cultural technique, cultivation and preservation techniques for cultivated plants, pruning and the sculptural qualities of plants, historical techniques of path construction, as well as lawn and perennial gardening. Additional sections include reviews of important publications on gardens, parks, and design, as well as a retrospective on the "Open Garden Days," which this year featured a multi-family garden and a traditional villa garden. Interviews with garden owners complement the contributions.
