Since then, he has written and illustrated numerous comics for First Second Books. With his work "American Born Chinese," he was able to impress fans and critics in 2006, receiving the American Library Association's Printz Award as well as an Eisner Award for "Best Graphic Album - New." The collaborative project "The Eternal Smile," created with Derek Kirk Kim in 2009, and the graphic novel "Prime Baby," released in 2010, also won Eisner Awards. Since 2012, Yang has been working with Avatar creators Mike DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, along with the female artist studio Gurihiru, on the continuation of the series "Avatar: The Last Airbender" in the form of a comic adaptation. In addition to his work as a writer and artist, Yang teaches Computer Science at a high school and as an instructor at Hamline University. Known as the team Gurihiru, the two Japanese artists Sasaki and Kawano create illustrations for comics, games, and animation studios. They have worked on drawing and coloring for Marvel's "Thor and the Warriors Four," "Power Pack," "Tails of the Pet Avengers," and "World War Hulks: Wolverine vs. Captain America." The team is also recognized for their work on the comic series for "Avatar: The Last Airbender.".
