Nothing in their two biographies suggested that they would ever meet on equal terms. The officer and the Chechen - they represented a nightmare for each other. In Uwe's world, Ahmad symbolized everything that goes wrong with migration, ultimately placing the burden on the police: failed integration, religious extremism, isolated parallel worlds. For Ahmad, who turned to crime at the age of 13 and was on the verge of joining the terrorist militia "Islamic State," someone like Uwe was both a figure of ridicule and an object of hatred, a traitor, a slave to the system.
