Product details

On the occasion of the centenary of the Collegium Building and the Biological Institute of the University of Zurich in April 2014, this anniversary book will be published. Opened in 1914, the new university building is not only the main work of the architect Karl Moser, but also one of the most exposed public buildings in Switzerland from the period before the First World War. Its artistic decoration, largely coordinated by the architect, led to an art scandal throughout Switzerland in 1913/14.
An essay by Peter von Matt, new photographs by René Burri and Katherine York, and a conversation between Philip Ursprung, the artist Pipilotti Rist and the artist Adrian Schiess introduce the book. At the centre is an artist book-like "picture atlas" by Vaclav Pozarek, which presents the building's past and present through photographs, reproductions based on works of art and other contemporary documents. The text section discusses the building from today's art and architectural history perspective, with the extensions and conversions as well as the discussions about the jewellery being discussed in detail. In the appendix, some important source texts that have not yet been available are reproduced as facsimiles.
