Thomas Mann, 1875 – 1955, is considered one of the most significant writers of the 20th century. With him, the modern German novel connected with world literature. Mann's multifaceted work has received an unparalleled positive response worldwide. From 1933, he lived in exile, first in Switzerland and then in the USA. It was not until 1952 that Mann returned to Europe, where he passed away in Zurich in 1955.

Editor: Thomas Sprecher

Thomas Sprecher was the head of the Thomas Mann Archive at ETH Zurich from 1994 to 2012. He has authored numerous monographs, essays, and collected volumes on Thomas Mann. As part of the Complete Annotated Frankfurt Edition, he edited the volumes Letters I to III (with Hans R. Vaget and Cornelia Bernini) as well as Felix Krull (with Monica Bussmann).

Editor: Monica Bussmann

Monica Bussmann worked as a research associate at the Thomas Mann Archive in Zurich for fourteen years. She oversaw the editorial work of the Complete Annotated Frankfurt Edition and also contributed as an editor to the commentary of Felix Krull (with Thomas Sprecher). She studied German philology and history at the University of Basel.
