Condition survey

The book provides an insight into the archive of condition assessments created over several years by the photographer David Küenzi on behalf of the city of Zurich. The Zurich Office for Debt Collection and City Clerk issues an officially certified report at the request of the property owner or the builder when a property is being remodeled, renovated, demolished, or a new building is being constructed. The report includes an assessment of existing damages, which consists of a written record of cracks and photographic documentation. The City Clerk's Office is required to work with freelance, certified photographers in this process. Küenzi's documentation of various cracks is now being recontextualized in the form of an artist's book. What was once merely a purpose-driven document now develops into an independent image with a profound perspective.
