What ideologies reside in a single-family home? How do settlements merge into cities? What characterizes the intimate yet complicated relationship between architecture and photography? Such questions guide the major anniversary exhibition 'Concrete - Photography and Architecture', with which the Fotomuseum Winterthur celebrates its 20th anniversary. For once, the relationship between the two fields is explored from the perspective of photography. Architecture has always been a grand and hotly debated showcase of zeitgeist, worldview, and aesthetics. It materializes both private and public visions, serving as functional art and avant-garde at the same time. Starting from the 19th century, when photography was invented, the book presents groundbreaking urban architectures and cityscapes by Domenico Bresolin, Charles Marville, and Germaine Krull, as well as works by Walker Evans, Lucien Hervé, and Stanley Kubrick.
