Starting from the organ systems, the fourth edition of this acknowledged work provides a good overview of the effects, side effects and interactions of common medications as well as special advice for pregnancy and lactation. Knowledge of the effects and side effects of drugs is a prerequisite for their safe use. If several drugs are taken simultaneously, interactions occur at different levels of pharmacokinetics or pharmacodynamics. In the 4th edition about 70 new drugs were included, drugs that are no longer available were eliminated. Newly added are chapters on personalized therapy, which in addition to the specific clinical picture takes into account the individual physiological constitution as well as individual molecular biological constellations. A chapter on antivirals was also added.
