Cognitive-psychoeducational therapy for coping with depression.

The manual describes various cognitive-psychoeducational therapy components that can be used in the treatment of depressed patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Following a description of the disorder, an overview of the etiology, epidemiology, comorbidity, and diagnostics of depressive disorders is provided. Practically oriented and illustrated with numerous examples, the implementation of the group therapy consisting of 12 sessions is then described. The therapy components include psychoeducation about the illness as well as its psychotherapeutic and psychopharmacological treatment options. Additional sessions focus on building activities, cognitive therapy, managing early warning signs, and a crisis plan for relapse prevention.
