Product details

Recent developments in computer science, particularly data-driven procedures, have opened a new level for design and engineering. Architecture is also affected by this. This volume brings together contributions from computer scientists, mathematicians, philosophers, cultural theorists, and architects on the topic of Coding as Literacy.

The overarching interest lies in examining computer-based methods beyond a strictly case-based and problem-solving paradigm: the topic invites us to understand computational procedures as embedded in a broader media literacy, which can be accessed and appropriated through computational literacy, and to reflect profitably on the data processed in these methods in terms of quantum physics. As a concrete reference point for all further discussions, the so-called Self Organizing Maps (SOM), introduced more than 30 years ago, are highlighted.
