CODAR Data Analysis and Numerical Simulation

"CODAR Data Analysis and Numerical Simulation" is a specialized book that focuses on the study of surface currents in and around Block Island Sound (BIS). Based on a year of HF radar observations and data from bottom-mounted acoustic Doppler current profilers (ADCP), it provides a comprehensive analysis of current patterns and their temporal evolution. The book employs various analytical methods, including visual sorting, Self-Organizing Maps (SOM), and Empirical Orthogonal Functions (EOF), to compare the results. Additionally, the Princeton Ocean Model (POM) is used to investigate the three-dimensional barotropic semidiurnal tidal response in New York Bight and Block Island Sound. This publication represents the first comprehensive comparative analysis of models and observations of coastal upwelling currents over an entire seasonal cycle and is a significant step toward the development of a model-based coastal observatory system.
